Bambooloo® launches 100% natural fibre NAT:Mask©

Bambooloo® launches 100% natural fibre NAT:Mask©

In light of the increasing plastic waste during the COVID-19 pandemic and skin issues and discomfort caused by plastic masks, Bambooloo designed the NAT:Mask©. The NAT:Mask© 3+1 Layer Reusable (non-surgical) mask is a lightweight and breathable reusable face mask made with a hybrid of three biodegradable natural materials (cotton, bamboo and silk) which is designed to protect people and the planet without compromising on style and comfort. This is condensed into NAT:Mask©’s tagline, ‘Sustainable. Safe. Stylish.’.

Like most plastic waste, close to 75% of used disposable masks would end up in landfills or the ocean (UN News 2020). The NAT:Mask© aims to reduce the widespread use of plastic masks by producing a mask that is biodegradable and has a high safety performance. The outer layer is made of 100% cotton which is durable, breathable and great at filtering out particles. The middle layer is 100% silk which is ideal for electrostatic filtering. The inner layer is 100% bamboo which is naturally hypoallergenic, antibacterial and antimicrobial. This combination of materials makes the NAT:Mask© highly breathable and safe especially in places with high humidity such as Singapore.  The NAT:Mask© is tested by Bureau Veritas (BV), a trusted testing centre under the standard of ASTM F2100-2019. Based on the tests conducted, it has Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE) ≥ 95 and Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (PFE) ≥ 95.

The mask comes with an additional removable 100% bamboo fabric layer which boosts the level of filtration. This is to come in handy in places with high levels of air pollution where an extra level of filtration is desirable.Since the inner layer is made of bamboo, which is naturally antibacterial and antimicrobial, it combats mask acne which many people who wear plastic masks suffer from. The curvy contour hugs the shape of your face leaving a clean and neat silhouette while the copper noseband ensures a snug fit that eliminates the problem of foggy glasses that many mask wearers struggle with.

“With the need to consider wearing masks for almost all situations outside of the home many people are faced with two issues. Firstly, plastic based masks are causing a lot of skin issues for people, particularly in locations of high humidity as in Singapore. Secondly, we are all very much aware that these plastic based masks are going to be in our environment for hundreds of years. We wanted to do something about this and to allow mask wearing to be a comfortable, non-irritating experience that is high in protective performance and yet biodegradable and natural. We set about  working through various versions until we reached the model we released under our Bambooloo brand. We are very excited about how this innovative product can help impact people's lives in a positive way.” added David Ward, the CEO of The Nurturing Co, who led the designing of the NAT:Mask©.

Available in three sizes and eight colours, the NAT:Mask© prioritises a comfortable fit for everyone. The NAT:Mask© which can be ordered directly from Bambooloo’s online store is available for shipping worldwide and corporate customization. It comes packaged in 100% recycled kraft paper packaging.
